Rauhnächte – Between the years

In German folk belief and folk witchcraft customs, the Rauhnächte are probably the most magical, ominous and spiritual time of the year. It is the time between the years – the time between the winter holidays and Epiphany – when it is believed that wild spirits (or the wild hunt, led by Odin) travel our world. The term Rauhnacht possibly derives from the word ‘Rauch’ (smoke) – which hints towards the widespread custom of smoke cleansing homes and stables, or the word ‘Ruch’ (hairy, furry), hinting towards the description of the wild spirits or demons that would usually appear as big, furry beasts with gleaming eyes. It was traditionally a time when people focused on spiritual cleansing, protecting and warding, as well as divination practices and little rituals to bring in good fortune for the new year.

Nowadays, many witches or spiritual practitioners use these traditions and superstitions, as well as symbolism from old customs, and interpret them in a modern way to bring more peace and ease into the transition from one year to the next.

Depending on regional customs or personal spiritual beliefs, this time starts somewhere between the 21st of December and the 25th of December and lasts until the 5th or 6th of January.

In this online workshop, you will be guided through the spiritual time ‘between the years’ (otherwise known as the Rauhnächte, 12 days of Christmas or Twelfthtide). This includes knowledge about old customs and stories, smoke blend recipes and cleansing rituals, seasonal meditations, journal prompts based on the spiritual meaning of this time of year, folk witchcraft activities, protection and abundance spells, and much more magick.

After signing up and paying for this online course, you will receive your first email prompt. You will then receive a daily email for 12 consecutive days.

I suggest starting this course sometime in late December or early January.

Please make sure to check the box that allows automated emails, as you otherwise won’t receive the daily prompts.
